Tooth Discoloration Causes & Prevention
Are you dealing with darkening teeth? Mark L. Teach, a dedicated cosmetic dentist in Buffalo explains the common causes of tooth discoloration and how to prevent it. If you have questions, or would like to schedule a dental appointment, please contact us today.
Teeth will darken sometimes with age because the teeth actually get their color from the dentin, which is the underlying layer below the enamel. As we age, just like many other things happen in the body, the dentin tends to yellow more and our teeth will naturally darken with age. Other reasons for the darkening of teeth, obviously, are stains, smoking, drinking a lot of coffee, tea, red wine. Sometimes those stains can be removed with dental cleanings, whereas the changes and colors in the dentin are something that are very difficult to change without doing something more invasive into the tooth.
