Fillings are placed in the teeth due to factors such as decay. The amount of decay and where the decay is usually dictate what type of filling is used and how much of the tooth’s structure requires repair. We use local anesthesia, which numbs the area of the mouth so that the patient has no sensitivity when we remove the decay from the tooth. Then, once the decay is removed, we properly clean the area in order to prepare for the filling. Using composite fillings or amalgam, we place the filling material in the tooth and wait for the filling to harden.
