Baby Teeth Care

By the time your child is two years old, all of their baby teeth should have grown in. Some kids take less or more time. At this time you may be wonder what, if anything, you need to be doing for baby teeth care.

Baby Teeth Care | Starting Early

Before they even grow that first cute little tooth, you can start by caring for their gums by wiping them down after every feeding with a warm, soft, wet washcloth. There is no need for any toothpaste quite yet and certainly there is no need for any mouth wash. By doing this, not only are you showing your baby that this is going to be a routine that they can get used to, but it allows you to check on their gums every day. You can ensure those gums stay healthy by wiping them down every day.

Baby Teeth Care | First Teeth

As soon as you see that first little tooth, you can start gently brushing it with a soft toothbrush without toothpaste. When your baby is 18 months old, you can start using fluoride-free toothpaste to brush their teeth twice a day. Be sure to teach them to spit out the toothpaste. They don’t necessarily need to rinse yet if they are using fluoride-free toothpaste. Babies should not be exposed to fluoride until they are 3 years old.
